Jonah Hex Burke Tattoo: The Story Behind the Ink
The Origins of Jonah Hex
Jonah Hex is a character from the DC Comics universe that first appeared in the 1970s. He’s a Western anti-hero with a scarred face and a penchant for violence. Hex has become a popular character in recent years, thanks to a movie adaptation and his appearance in various TV shows and video games.
The Burke Tattoo Connection
One of the most iconic aspects of Jonah Hex’s appearance is his facial scar. In the movie adaptation, the scar is given a backstory. Hex is a former Confederate soldier who was betrayed by his commanding officer, Quentin Turnbull, and left to die. Turnbull brands Hex’s face with a hot iron as a final act of revenge. The Burke tattoo is a reference to this backstory. In the movie, Hex encounters a man named Burke who has a tattoo on his hand that matches the brand on Hex’s face. Burke is a member of Turnbull’s gang, and the tattoo is a sign of his loyalty to the villain.
