Laser Tattoo Removal Healing: A Comprehensive Guide
Introduction
Tattoos are a popular form of self-expression, but sometimes people regret getting them. Fortunately, laser tattoo removal is an option for those who want to remove their tattoos. But what should you expect during the healing process? In this article, we’ll provide tips and advice on how to heal after laser tattoo removal.
What is Laser Tattoo Removal?
Laser tattoo removal is a procedure that uses high-powered lasers to break down the ink particles in a tattoo. The broken-down ink particles are then absorbed by the body over time. The number of sessions needed for complete removal varies depending on the size and complexity of the tattoo.
The Healing Process
After the laser tattoo removal procedure is completed, the treated area will be bandaged and a topical antibiotic ointment will be applied. The area should be kept clean and dry for the first 24 hours after the procedure. After that, it’s important to keep the area moisturized with an unscented lotion.
Common Side Effects
It’s normal to experience some redness, swelling, and blistering after laser tattoo removal. These side effects should subside within a week. It’s important to avoid picking at any scabs or blisters that may form to prevent infection.
How to Manage Discomfort
Pain and discomfort are common after laser tattoo removal. Over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen can be taken to manage discomfort. Applying ice to the treated area can also help reduce swelling and discomfort.
What to Avoid
It’s important to avoid exposing the treated area to the sun, as this can cause hyperpigmentation. It’s also important to avoid swimming, soaking in a bath or hot tub, and using a sauna or steam room for at least two weeks after the procedure to prevent infection.
When to Seek Medical Attention
While complications are rare, it’s important to know when to seek medical attention. If you experience excessive bleeding, severe pain, signs of infection such as pus or fever, or if the treated area does not improve after a week, contact your healthcare provider.
