Tattoo Over Keloid Scar: News, Tips, Review, and Tutorial

Introduction

Keloid scars are a common problem for people who have undergone surgery, injury, or any other form of skin trauma. These scars are raised and thick, making them difficult to treat. One of the ways people try to cover up keloid scars is by getting a tattoo over them. However, is it safe? Will the tattoo stay or will the keloid scar return?

News

According to a recent study, tattooing over keloid scars is possible but may cause complications. The study found that the ink may not stay in the skin due to the abnormal tissue structure caused by the keloid scar. This can lead to uneven color and fading of the tattoo. Additionally, the tattoo may cause further scarring and keloid formation.

Tips

Before getting a tattoo over a keloid scar, it is important to consult with a dermatologist or a tattoo artist who has experience with keloid scars. They can assess the scar and determine whether it is safe to tattoo over it. It is also important to choose a tattoo artist who uses high-quality ink and equipment to minimize the risk of infection.

Review

People who have successfully tattooed over keloid scars have mixed reviews. Some have reported that the tattoo stayed and covered up the scar, while others have experienced complications such as uneven color and further scarring. One person shared, “I have a keloid scar on my shoulder and got a tattoo over it.
