The Growing Trend of Family Business Tattoo Shops in San Diego

For many people, getting a tattoo is a deeply personal and meaningful experience. It’s a way to express oneself, commemorate an important event or person, or simply to adorn the body with beautiful and intricate artwork. And for some, it’s also a way to carry on a family legacy.

The Rise of Family Business Tattoo Shops

In recent years, there has been a growing trend of family-owned and operated tattoo shops in San Diego. These businesses are often passed down from one generation to the next, with parents teaching their children the art of tattooing and instilling in them a deep respect for the craft.

One such family business is San Diego Tattoo Company, which was founded in 1998 by tattoo artist James Tran. Today, the business is run by James and his son David, who is also a talented tattoo artist.

According to James, the decision to pass the business down to David was an easy one. “I always knew that I wanted to keep the business in the family,” he says. “David has been around the shop since he was a kid, and he’s always had a passion for tattooing. It just made sense.”

The Benefits of Family Business Tattoo Shops

One of the biggest advantages of family-owned tattoo shops is the level of trust and camaraderie that exists between the artists. Because they are often related by blood or marriage, there is a sense of loyalty and commitment that is hard to find in other businesses.

David Tran agrees. “Working with my dad is amazing,” he says. “We have a great relationship and we work really well together. There’s no one else I’d rather be in business with.”

Another benefit of family-owned tattoo shops is the sense of tradition and history that comes with them. Many of these businesses have been around for decades, and have become an integral part of the local community.
