Mortician Tattoos: A Unique Form of Art

As tattoos continue to gain popularity around the world, it’s no surprise that even morticians have joined in on the trend. Mortician tattoos are a unique form of art that often hold special meanings for those in the funeral industry. In this article, we will explore the world of mortician tattoos, their history, and what they represent.

The History of Mortician Tattoos

Mortician tattoos have been around for centuries, with some of the earliest examples dating back to ancient Egypt. In Egyptian culture, tattoos were used to symbolize status and were often placed on the body of the deceased to help them in the afterlife. In more recent history, mortician tattoos were used to identify the dead during wartime, with each tattoo representing important information such as the soldier’s name, rank, and unit.

Why Morticians Get Tattoos

While tattoos have become increasingly common in society, they hold a special significance for morticians. For many, tattoos serve as a way to honor those they have worked with in the funeral industry. They may also represent personal beliefs, such as the idea that death is a natural part of life. Some morticians also get tattoos to represent their profession, with designs featuring coffins, skulls, and other symbols associated with the funeral industry.

Popular Designs for Mortician Tattoos

There are many different designs that are popular among morticians when it comes to tattoos. One of the most common is the Grim Reaper, which symbolizes death and the afterlife. Other popular designs include skulls, skeletons, and coffins. Some morticians choose to get tattoos that represent their specific role in the funeral industry, such as a hearse or embalming tools.

However, those in the funeral industry argue that tattoos are a way to honor the dead and to show respect for the profession. As one funeral director stated, “We are not here to judge people based on their appearance. We are here to help them in their time of need.”
